Sporting fans will now get to vote for their favorite sport following a new promotion launched by Vodafone Fiji, the Fiji Sports Council and Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee.

The texting promotion labeled ‘My favorite sport’ allows users to text in their favorite sport from 40 sporting disciplines.

Fiji Sports Council chief executive officer, Litiana Loabuka said this would allow the council to give back to the sporting bodies as well as provide an equal platform for all sports disciplines.

“This ( the promotion) allows us to give something back to sporting federations and whats wonderful about it is it gives the public an equal platform to vote so minor sports have an equal chance to win,” said Loabuka.

The sporting body which gets the most votes will receive $1000 cash as well as $1000 worth of sporting goods from JR White whilst those who text have a chance to win $500 cash and $500 worth of sporting goods.

Vodafone Sponsorship manager Liga Gukisuva said the promotion would be a boost for sporting bodies that face budget constraints.

“One of the biggest setbacks for sports in Fiji is funding, the promotion will be able to take that burden away from some sporting bodies, so basically it’s a win win situation,” said Gukisuva.

The winners will be drawn on March 2 which will coincide with the Fiji Sports Council/FASANOC joint awards.

The sporting disciplines available on the texting platform include atheletics, archery, badminton, baseball, basketball, billiard and snooker, bodybuilding, bowls (men), bowls (women), boxing, chess, cricket, darts, football, game fishing, golf (men), golf (women), hockey, judo, karate, netball, Va’a, Paralympics, power lifting, rugby, rugby league, shooting, squash, surfing, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis, touch, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, yachting.
