The Fiji Sports Council, in partnership with Nappy Time is hosting a three-day Mums and Bubs Wellness Programme on May 8-10 at the FMF Gymnasium.
“The Mums and Bubs Wellness Programme supports the theme that a healthy mum makes a healthy family. While we commemorate the role women/mothers play on a specific day of the year, we acknowledge the beacon they are to influence decisions on a daily basis, starting from the home,” Acting Chief Executive Officer, Fiji Sports Council, Gilbert Vakalalabure, said.
Vakalalabure said the Council was honoured to have Fiji Sports Council Board Member, Della Shaw-Elder, officially open the three-day event on May 8.
The Mums and Bubs programme was designed to encourage active lifestyles among women, young girls, and children alike, in fact, the whole family. He said Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) pose a risk on families, and women are best to influence family decisions to embark on healthy lifestyles.
The Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Dr. Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalavu, in his parliamentary statement delivered on 15 February this year, said that 80percent of annual deaths in Fiji are attributed to NCDs, and over 65percent of our people are overweight or obese.
“I hope that the activities planned for the Mums and Bubs Wellness Programme encourages individuals and families to bond and form fitness networks, moving forward,” Vakalalabure said.
The programme will feature activity instructors leading each of the three days in step-aerobics, yoga, dancercise, zumba, and netball. Three motivational speakers will also share their thoughts on topics focused on improving the self.
Members of the public will also have the chance to have various wellness screenings, made possible by our collaborators- Fiji Cancer Society, Diabetes Fiji, Project Heaven, Pacific Eye Institute, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
“I encourage you to take full advantage of all the activities and sessions on offer and to engage with our partners and collaborators to learn more about how you can take better care of your health.”
Registration for this event is $7.00 per day and can be done at the FMF Gymnasium on each of the three days.
